Your or your child's brain can change, thanks to neuroplasticity

What is neuroplasticity?

Structural neuroplasticity and functional neuroplasticity are two components of brain plasticity that work in tandem to support the brain's adaptability.
Structural neuroplasticity involves physical changes in the brain's structure, such as the growth of new neurons (neurogenesis), the formation of new connections between neurons (synaptogenesis), and the rewiring of existing connections (neuronal remodeling). These changes can occur in response to learning, experience, or environmental factors. Structural plasticity plays a vital role in shaping the brain's architecture and can occur over different timescales, from rapid changes observed during early development to more gradual changes throughout adulthood.

Functional neuroplasticity, on the other hand, refers to the brain's ability to adapt its functional organization and activity patterns in response to changes in input or demand. It involves the redistribution of tasks among different brain regions or the compensation for the loss or damage of specific brain areas. For example, if a certain brain region is injured, other areas may take over its functions. Functional plasticity can occur on a relatively faster timescale compared to structural plasticity and is closely tied to changes in neural circuitry and synaptic strength.
In summary, while structural neuroplasticity relates to physical changes in the brain's structure, functional neuroplasticity refers to the brain's capacity to reorganize its functional processes and adapt its activity patterns. Both forms of plasticity are crucial for learning, memory, recovery from injury, and overall brain adaptation throughout life.

  4. Post - intervention assessment takes place on the last day of the Theracamp
  5. A home program is provided on the last day of the theracamp with a set of of exercises, along with the educational videos, as the step-by-step protocols that are easy to follow at home
  6. Two follow up calls in the week 4 and 8 post the theracamp.

What methods and tools are used during Brain TheraCamp?

You or your child will work with some, not all, of the cutting-edge NeuroTools used in the area of developmental functional neurology as part of The Melillo Method ™ protocols.

In the intensive programs we re-wire the brain while following specific advanced hemispheric-based protocols and some cutting-edge tools used in the field of developmental functional neurology and functional neurosciences.

What's the schedule?

The 1-1 intensive Brain TheraCamp program is individualised for each child to meet their specific needs, but the general procedure is similar.
In the 10-session-per-week program, they will have 2 x 45 minute sessions per day, five days a week, in the 20-session-per-week program, they witll have 2 x 90 minute session blocks per day, five days a week.

Assessment on day 1
Each child is first tested using a number of standardised tests to establish if there is an imbalance in the brain, which part of the brain is underdeveloped and which one is overdeveloped, and exactly which parts of the brain are most delayed in their development. To make this assessment, motor and coordination abilities, sensory processing, cognitive and academic skills are measured. Diet and habits that may negatively affect the brain and its development and balance are also assessed.

Intervention
Based on the results of the testing, an individualised programme is developed that addresses the specific needs of the particular child.

A multimodal approach is used for maximum effect and supporting the integration of different brain areas, as well as the two hemispheres as a whole. Usually, a child does not need need all possible interventions, but a unique combination involving some of them.

There is always a home program that runs post to the intensive Brain TheraCamp sessions.
Parents are instructed how to do with their child various exercises and stimulations included in it.

What is the primary issue in most learning disablities and behavioural disorders?

We are focused on addressing the primary issue in most learning disabilities and behavioural disorders which is known as a functional disconnection.

Functional disconnection has become one of the leading theories in the world related to Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and more. Dr. Melillo's  - my mentor's work is leading the way toward understanding the underlying nature of these disorders and their causes.

What's the goal of each TheraCamp for each client?

'' The goal is simple: restore balance to the brain by targeting specific networks on one side of the brain with very specific stimulation. By combining different types of stimulation (light, sound, smell, movement, inner ear, balance, touch) along with cognitive and academic activities etc., we can activate specific networks on one side of the brain, causing them to grow and become more connected.''

- by Dr. Melillo

To achieve the greatest and more rapid functional improvements in your child, we recommend the intensive in-person TheraCamps, which last from 5 to 18 days, with 10 up to 48 sessions per week.
The TheraCamps provide the profound brain stimulation and very intensive intervention for all our clients, who are very young children, school aged children, adults and seniors.
